How are the lessons similar to online or live classes?
BCW writing workshops are self directed. You download the lesson you are ready to work on and go at your own pace. We strongly advise our students to do the exercises at the end of the lesson to ground your knowledge in personal experience. There are however, no tests or evaluations by an instructor. The focus is on self instruction, practice and evaluation.
How much writing will I be doing?
Along with a lesson on an aspect of writing for the beauty industry, you will have a variety of assignments, projects and exercises as "homework" which will be related to the lecture. For example, if the lecture is on in-store promotional materials then the exercise might be to write a display piece like a poster to announce a new product arrival. Another assignment might be to go to a local department store and bring back the free promotional materials like a counter booklet-- you find on the beauty counters and then try doing something similar yourself. In this way, you teach yourself about the craft of beauty writing just like you will do as a professional writer, continually practicing your craft and going out regularly to learn from what´s in the stores and what the competition is doing. Putting your own ideas into practice and teaching yourself by doing it yourself are your goals in the Workshop because that´s how professionals improve their own skills. No two beauty writers write the same way, so it´s good to hear and become comfortable with your own writing voice, right away.
What are the goals of Beauty Writer Workshop?
Our most important goal is to give you the structure to study in a focused, step by step way without overwhelming you with too much information. Successful students do the lessons regularly we recommend one a week -- and give themselves deadlines to get their exercises done. Our second goal is to give you a big overview of the beauty industry and what kinds of writing you will be expected to master. Most beauty companies and agencies don´t have time or resources these days to train a junior writer and get them up to speed. This workshop will give you a knowledge base of what kind of materials you will be asked to write, and the tools to do so successfully. You can also use your exercises as the beginning of a portfolio of samples which you must have to get work. Your portfolio is your calling card and the sooner you begin to build a collection of samples to show prospective employers, the better.
Who teaches The Workshop/
The lessons have been written by me, based on 30 years in the beauty business, working for over 40 cosmetic companies, both free-lance and on staff. I have also worked for beauty magazines, ad agencies and websites. The lessons are designed to make you your own teacher and instill confidence in your ability to tackle any aspect of the business and any kind of assignment --from packaging to advertising to TV and radio commercials to website materials.

How much does the workshop cost ? The Workshop offers 3 easy payment methods:
1. The workshop package of 10 lessons -- is $495.00. It s the most cost-efficient way to go if you want the full workshop experience.
2. A La Carte. You can also buy individual lessons. Each is $75.00 (ideal if you only need insider information on how to write for one aspect of the business, for example, public relations, or web-based writing).
3. Pay as you go. You can download any 2 lessons at a time, getting the entire course in 5 easy payments of $140 for 2 complete lessons. When you&aqcute;re ready to buy 2 more lessons, just come on line, log on and order whatever you need.
A one-time only $25 registration fee is applied for all students.

I´m not yet 18 years old. Can I take The Workshop?
In most countries, including the U.S., you need to be 18 or older to enter into a contract. And buying the Workshop lessons from Beauty Writer Workshop is, in effect, a contract. However, if we have parental consent, we´ll be happy to have you on board. We need an email from a parent or legal guardian saying that he or she has looked over the course, the school and the terms of payment and thinks you can benefit from it and you have their permission to take the lessons.
Why we love PayPal.
It´s so easy and private. Students can pay with a credit or debit card knowing their privacy is fully protected. We do not see your card number. PayPal takes credit/debit cards and cash from many countries and performs the money conversions, passing your payment on to us in U.S. dollars. Is the Workshop for Beginners Only?
No. Many skilled, professional writers take the Workshop because they want to branch out into the high-paying beauty industry. As you´ll quickly find, the beauty industry has its own language and technical terms that every writer must know. The lessons are basic enough for all levels of expertise and provide an excellent foundation for your future as a beauty writer. Eventually, we plan to develop additional Workshops that concentrate in greater depth on one aspect of beauty writing for example, writing for the fragrance or skincare industry or specializing in public relations. There s always new things to learn about the craft of writing for this exciting billion dollar industry.
Can I Browse Through a Sample Lesson?
Of course. When you click the name of each lessons, it will open a window where you can read several pages of the lesson, inclusing sample exercises, and take a free look at no obligation to buy anything.
Do You Offer a Certificate or a Degree Program?
No. The good news is you don´t need one to get work in this industry just talent, hard work and a great portfolio, which the Workshop can help you with!
What is Your Policy for Refunds and Credits?

Can Foreign Students Take the Workshop ?
As long as you have a working knowledge of English and access to the internet regularly, we´d love to have you in the Workshop. There are no special steps needed to register - just fill out the online registration form and charge the classes via Paypal to your credit card. The correct amount will be converted to your currency and charged to your card.
Is the Workshop Accredited?
No. Not at this time. But we are working on linking to colleges and universities to include the Workshop as part of their continuing education program.
Can I Get a Job After Completing the Workshop?
We hope so! That´s why the Workshop was created. Realistically, however, at the least, you can expect to gain an insider´s knowledge of writing for the beauty industry a working vocabulary of business terms and definitions that distinguish you from writers who don´t know the business basic knowledge of all kinds of beauty writing from packaging to public relations... and the beginnings of a portfolio of samples you can show prospective employers. As with any profession, talent, willingness to learn, hard work, getting along with others and being willing to get out there and market yourself will determine your ultimate success in the industry. The good news is that, unlike the magazine field, the competition is relatively small for corporate and agency jobs. Lots of people would love to work for the beauty industry but most don´t have the in-depth knowledge and skill to be viable job condidates, despite their expertise in other areas. Stick with the Workshop and you will.
